Monday’s Musings #267 & June Daybook

June Daybook & Monday's Musings #167 | What Joy Is Mine

Today is June 25th.

The weather is windy but there is a beautiful sunset happening as I type. I have to say…we have beautiful sunsets here.

I have officially lived 50 years. What? I know! I can hardly believe it myself. And I am ever so thankful for those 50 years. The good and the hard. It’s what makes my story. It’s God’s design for my life.

I enjoyed celebrating my 50th birthday last week. I was overjoyed by all the sweet love I received. My family threw me a surprise party and showered me with good food and laughter. At church, I got lots of hugs and best wishes. Truly, it was a great weekend!

I have finished reading “The Imitation of Christ” by Thomas a Kempis and “Peter Pan” J.M. Barrie. I enjoyed both very much. I am now reading “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexander Dumas and “Absolute Surrender and Other Addresses” by Andrew Murray. I am reading The Count of Monte Cristo a second time. It’s a great book on forgiveness and reconciliation.

I cannot believe June is almost over. The first day of summer has come and gone. Summer is officially here. This month alone found us celebrating graduations, birthdays, a baby shower, and watching “Wonder Woman” and “Cars 3,” both of which I loved! We don’t travel in the summer preferring to avoid crowds, traffic and the heat. But we will have friends over to grill and hang out as well as enjoy local events.

We are in the stage of life where we are seeing the age of our parents. From health concerns to forgetfulness, it is not easy watching them grow old-er. Yet we are trying to seize time with them and enjoy them.

I am thankful for family, birthdays to celebrate life, our church, and good movies.

Favorite saying:O, let the place of secret prayer become to me the most beloved spot on earth.“- Andrew Murray

Last week, I was not able to get up the link up. I apologize. But this week, it is ready to go. And I want to thank you for commenting faithfully as well. I do love hearing from you and appreciate your encouragement to me. Okay…now let’s get to sharing.

Monday’s Musings #266 & A Summer Reading List

A Summer Reading List & Monday's Musings #265 | What Joy Is MIne

It’s officially June and summer is almost here. It’s the perfect time to share some books to read. Some are on my reading list and some I am recommending that I have read. Now I am partial to a book in my hand while I get lost in what I am reading. But audio books serve a purpose too. Well, let’s get to it!

Books I am hoping to read this summer…

So, I have five books I hope to get through. We shall see if I do. It’s very ambitious for me. I picked three faith building and two fictional. Since I am finishing up Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, I thought I would take on Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass. There is something to be said for reading children’s literature as an adult. I am certainly enjoying Peter Pan and am so glad I decided to read it.

The Little Paris Book Shop I saw and skimmed in the book store. It sounded interesting so I am hoping it is a good read.

Here are some books I recommend…

Summer time is the perfect time to take J.R.R. Tolkiens The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. You will love the set! Bonhoeffer is a long book but a great summer read. I loved reading about Bonhoeffer’s love for the Lord. I am finishing up The Pursuit of God and learned so much from it. I didn’t list it but “The Imitation of Christ” by Tomas a Kempis is another awesome faith building read. I added in Peter Pan, of course, and The Lamplighter, both excellent fictional reads. If you desire, you can click on the book and it will take you to an opportunity to purchase it. Yes, they’re affiliate links.

So, what are you planning to read this summer?

Another Monday is upon us. That means link up time! Thank you for sharing.

Monday’s Musings #265 & May Daybook

MayDaybook

Today is June 4th, 2017

The weather is partly cloudy, windy and warm. Expecting some rain but probably won’t get it. The clouds are not close enough to give us rain.

Life is good. I’m in a season of busyness but not too bad. It’s enough to keep my mind occupied but not overwhelmed. These seasons are good and serve a purpose as do all seasons of life we walk through.

We survived the theater production of “Peter Pan and Wendy.” Our children are involved in a local student-run theater group. I oversee the meals and snacks for tech week and the shows. It’s exhausting but I have fabulous help from involved parents and love being around these kids, ages 5-25. Our daughter was prop manager this show and our son helped with the backstage crew. Yes, it’s a family affair. As it ought to be, in my opinion.

My garden is finally planted. We are growing squash, cherry tomatoes, green beans, Anaheim chile peppers, green bell pepper, jalapeno, basil, lime basil, lavender and rosemary. I hope to add another lavender plant as well as thyme and chocolate mint. We also planted flowers in some pots and I can’t wait for them to bloom. Do you have a garden? What do you grow?

Summer is practically here. Do you travel? Do you spend days at the pool? Do you have a reading agenda? We keep our summers low key since we do most of our traveling in fall and spring. But this summer is proving to be busier than usual by filling up with graduations, baby showers, birthday celebrations, another theater production (in which our daughter is acting in this time), a 3 week visit from a family friend, and a few other things. We are hoping to get in some family tennis matches and view some new movie releases, too. Summer is not my favorite season due to the heat YET I love the family things we do close to home.

My craft project for the next couple of weeks is to finish a baby quilt for our pastor’s wife. She is expecting a baby girl so, of course, pink is overrunning my dining room table. I am excited to be quilting again. And I am even more excited to bless their baby girl with a pretty blanket. Do you quilt? Or make blankets?

Healthwise, I am enjoying my walks outside. I have to go earlier with the sun making it too warm to walk later. I am opting to listen to audio books while walking instead of music. I get to “read” books which is not always something I find time to do. What are you reading?

I am thankful for plants to nurture and grow, for birthdays to celebrate life, for the ability to learn something new and for tacos!

A favorite quote: “You can see God from anywhere if your mind is set to love and obey Him.” (A.W. Tozer)

Here it is another week. Another Monday. Keep in mind that your smile looks good on you. Wear it boldly. And welcome back to another opportunity to encourage another. I am glad you’re here.
