Monday’s Musings #253 & Loving Others Like Jesus

Loving Others Like Jesus & Monday's Musings #253 | What Joy Is Mine

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, love is on the brain. But not just a romantic love but a selfless love. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” (John 13:34) John 13, verse 34 are the words of Christ and He tells us how to love one another.

We love one another as we are loved by the Lord. In knowing we are loved by God, we are to share that love with others. Jesus says in verse 35, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35)  How we love others ought to reflect the love we receive from the Father. The word “ought” signals a duty. A duty is something one is required to do. It is a responsibility of moral obligation. We are commanded to “keep loving one another earnestly” just as Jesus loved us. (1 Peter 4:8)

The word earnestly means “with sincere and intense conviction.” What a powerful thought! To love others with sincere intention and an intense conviction. This is a Jesus-kind of love: to be intentional with the purpose of mirroring the love we receive from God. “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (1 John 4:11) Remember what we discussed about the word “ought”? Again, we are to love one another because it is commanded by the Lord and demonstrated by Jesus.

How does this look? Well, it’s a kind word or a helping hand. It’s sharing and encouraging. It’s choosing to work out differences and bring about reconciliation. It’s putting others before yourself. It’s loving the unlovable. It’s loving the broken and lost. We must continue to work towards loving others the way Jesus loved. “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.” (Romans 13:8)  “We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

Hi friends. Welcome back. It’s time to share your posts! It’s a joy to have you here.

Monday’s Musings #202 & Super Bowl Distraction/Valentine’s Day

Monday's Musings #202 | What Joy Is Mine

Normally I work on this post over the weekend, but this weekend didn’t allow me time to do it. And then the Super Bowl happened. I’m not a Denver or Panthers fan but I love football. So, I’m watching it because it is the last pro-ball game until fall. Yes, I’m sad.

However, it will be here before you know it. Are you a sports fan? What sport? What team?

If you missed it, this past week I shared my thoughts on taking credit for God’s doing.

Valentine’s Day is seriously around the corner. Check out my Pinterest Valentine’s Day page for ideas to love on your family. Some of my favorites, which I’ve done, or plan to do:

And let all you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14)

Thank you for linking up so faithfully. You all rock! Now onto the party.
