Monday’s Musings #259 & March Daybook

March Daybook & Monday's Musings #259 | What Joy Is Mine

Today is March 26, 2017.

The weather has cooled a bit and the wind has made his face more known. I’m not a big fan of strong winds but it is spring weather for us here and that means lots of wind. I tend to straighten my hair more when the winds are strong. Curly hair and wind are not good friends. I end up with more knots in my hair than I like.

I am missing our friend who came to visit. We enjoyed loving on him and showing him some cool things about NM. He was such a joy and I look forward to visiting with again soon, Lord willing. Best part was having my house full of family every day! I am definitely not ready for the empty nest season although it is not too far off. So, I am soaking in each day that my kids are here.

We are preparing for a marriage in our family. It’s an exciting time! It will be a simple wedding and taking place this summer. And we have another in a courtship. It blows my mind to be here in this season of life where our children are in relationships pursuing marriage. I can still remember them as wee ones needing their mama to tie their shoes or give them a glass of milk or hug away their fears. However, we love the two people God has put in our children’s lives and pray over them and our children daily.

Physically, I have changed up my exercise routine a bit. I am doing a 30 day challenge on my phone. It is strength training with spurts of aerobics. I needed something different as I was getting burnt out on what I was doing. Also, this new challenge is definitely challenging me. I like that. Makes me want to stick with it. I’ve also upped my food changes. Both combined, I’ve lost 5 pounds so far. I’ll take it.

At church today, the guest preacher taught on gluttony. He only used food and drink as items we can go overboard with in discussing gluttony. Yet as I was sitting there listening, I began to think of how gluttony can apply to other things as well. Television, computer time, and Facebook are some that come to mind. Even things like reading and exercise can be gluttonous. Any time we do something in excess (exceeding a prescribed or desirable amount), we run the risk of being gluttonous. However, gluttony can be conquered. The remedy is removing the gluttonous thing and living out Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Put in the place of what excessively draws our heart, a focus on Christ and His love for us. Desire to spend time with the Lord and seek Him for discipline. Instead of running to those things that will cause us to stumble, we need to run our “strong tower” and find refuge. (Proverbs 18:10) These are my thoughts on gluttony.

Just thinking, April is practically here. Can you believe we are out of winter and into spring according to the calendar? This is the time I began planning my garden, which I will plant closer to May. We usually get one more freeze before planting can be done. I also go through my clothes before packing away my winter outfits. I’ve already been spring cleaning (began in January) so I will continue to work on those few last projects I have on my list. We also have a couple of trips planned we will need to finalize details on. What does spring hold for you?

I really enjoyed the live action movie, “Beauty and the Beast.” I liked the character development of some of the characters and the new song sung by the Beast is a new fav of mine. Beauty and the Beast retains the message of looking to the heart and not the appearance which I appreciated as well. The actors they chose I thought were good choices for the parts they played. I laughed, I got teary-eyed, I adored, and I am glad I went to see it. Now if you are against Disney or this movie, I respect that. However, I would recommend seeing the movie before passing judgement. You may be surprised.

I am thankful for sweet people in my life, cupcakes, opportunities to serve others, and sunshine!

Favorite sayings: “Impress the young convert from the very beginning with the coviction that God has called him into His kingdom to struggle with the corruptions of his heart.” (William B. Sprague)

How are you today? And what will you share? I am glad you are here.

We also have a wedding in our family this summer! Boy #2 is marrying a lovely girl in June. AND . . . we have a new grandbaby on the way in September! Add in a high school graduation in May, and I feel as if CHANGE is the glowing word that will float over my summer.
