Monday’s Musings #167 & How Do We Rest In God?

Monday's Musings #168 & How Do We Rest In God? | What Joy Is Mine

I am the worst at worrying. Sometimes my worries get the best of me. I’ve always been that way. I stumble and I find my worries flood over me. It’s so discouraging. Yet thankfully, God is faithful. In my weakness, He is strong. He draws me back into His arms, gently reminds me to lean on Him and I find rest.

So, how do we rest in God when life is throwing us difficult and trying times? Let me share what I have learned and try to live out.

First, prayer is so very important. Placing ourselves in God’s presence through prayer allows us to rest in Him. Knowing we can place our worries in His hands simply by doing so through prayer gives us peace. We’re reminded to not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

Second, read through Psalms. There is much comfort to be found there. I read the praise Psalms like Psalm 33, Psalm 66, and Psalm 147. Putting our mind on worshiping God takes our focus off of ourselves and our worries and places them on a sovereign God who loves us so very much. Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!” (Psalm 100:2)

In addition to prayer and reading through Psalms, hiding God’s word in my heart is huge in calming the anxious soul. Don’t just read it, hide it. Take the time to memorize it then think on it often. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.“(Joshua 1:8) If worry starts to creep in, recite verses to bring about peace.

Resting in God does not always come easy since in the moment, we are so focused on what is occurring in our life. Trust me, I know. However, I know the Lord I serve is a faithful and loving God. He doesn’t want me to worry but to instead trust Him. He wants me to give Him my burdens and reminds me of this in Matthew 11, verse 28, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

With that reminder, I want to thank all who prayed over my Love and I. We have felt much healing and had a real good week health-wise. Praise God! It’s good to be on the other side of things and I am ever grateful for God’s answer to prayers lifted up for us. I am also so thankful as well for this community each and every Monday. Having you all come and share each week is awesome. Thank you! Now enough mushy stuff. Let’s get to the link up.

Yes, I have some Psalms stored in my brain to pull out and mull over when I’m tempted to worry.
    I know I’m in trouble when I start worrying about how much I worry . . .
Blessings on your week, and thanks for hosting us!
