Monday’s Musings #256 & February Daybook

February Daybook & Monday's Musings #256 | What Joy Is Mine

Today is March 5th, 2017.

The weather is cool because the wind blowing is chilly. It’s a high of 68 degrees but feels like 50 degrees.

The book I am reading “The Pursuit of God” by A.W. Tozer, is one I am really enjoying. Some of you have probably read it but it is new to me. My book list is long so I am glad to be getting to this one.

A craft project I finished in two afternoons were these Mickey and Minnie pillows for the sofa in our Disneyland room. It was such a treat to be sewing again. It’s been a long time since I’ve sat down at my sewing machine and made anything. I used to quilt a lot but have gotten away from it. Maybe I will be able to pick it up again.

A new skill I am learning is calligraphy and hand lettering. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, I sometimes post my progress. Practice makes better and I can see growth each time I sit down to write. I love this new skill and look forward to the time I can sit and work on it.

I am looking forward to a visit from a friend of our family’s. He will be spending a week with us. We hope to show him some cool things about our city and state. But mostly, we are looking forward to our time with him.

Healthwise, I have been sticking to my workout regimen of cardio and strength training. Sometimes I have to push myself to get it done but when I’m finished, I love that I did something good for my health. With the weather warming up, going on walks is given. I  love walking for exercise!

A favorite pastime is antiquing. I love looking through old forgotten things. I have a favorite antique store I visit every few months. I spread out my visits so I see new things. I recently found a wingback chair I adored. I have been looking for a “new” chair for my sitting area in our bedroom. I was ready to be rid of the 11 year old chaise chair. A trip to my favorite antique store lead me to the chair that I’ve been waiting for. Here is a photo of the chair! I absolutely love it!!

I am watching Star Trek: The Next Generation series with our youngest son. Well, he’s over 20 years old but still the youngest of our two boys. We are presently in season 3 and moving right along. We usually will try to catch two or three episodes in a row if we can. Some episodes we’ve had to skip due to content but other than those we are enjoying the series. It’s been a long while since I’ve watched it.

I am grateful for time with my children, for this blog and all who visit, and for the ability to learn something new.

A favorite quote:God’s aim in all His doings of grace is to ‘hide pride from man'; to hinder boasting; to keep the sinner humble.” (Horatius Bonar)

Monday’s Musings #252 & January Daybook

January Daybook & Monday's Musings #252 | What Joy Is Mine

Today is January 29, 2017.

The weather is really nice. Not too cold and sunny. Supposed to have nice sunny weather all week.

I am presently enjoying a quiet afternoon at home. It’s the Lord’s Day and it ought to be restful. We’re watching a 1936 movie with our kids at the moment. Do you like old movies?

I finished my goal setting earlier this month. So far, I have been able to work toward some of them. I like to do a monthly check in to see where I am with each one. This helps me stay focused and intentional.

We have been tentatively planning our future trips. Planning early helps us afford it financially as well as encourage us to hold each detail in prayer. It is my prayer we get to do all we are hoping to.

Some of the books I am hoping to read this year are in my hands now. I am starting with “Does Grace Grow Best In Winter?” by Ligon Duncan. This book answers the questions: What is suffering for? What does it look like from the standpoint of God’s sovereignty? It looks like a quick read with, hopefully, a good message.

Our family bible time consists of two things. We are reading through the New Testament using this plan. We are also continuing our study through The Shorter Catechism using Training Hearts, Training Minds. We’re on question #42 this week. We often have good biblical discussion and I am loving this time with my kids.

I am excited about baseball season! With the Super Bowl this upcoming weekend, I am ready to close out football and watch some baseball. Do you like baseball? Do you have a favorite team?

Spring cleaning has begun in our home. I’ve tackled the master bath and my bookshelf in our bedroom. I’ve also begun to clean out and reorganize our pantry. I am excited to be making good progress in decluttering and reorganizing areas in our home. Spring cleaning doesn’t have to happen in spring friends.

At our church, we are starting up our community groups once more. We will be in a different group and are excited to see how God will grow us up in Him during our time together. It’s a blessing to fellowship with fellow believers.

I am grateful for a new year, for goals to work towards, for a God who hears my prayers, and for praise.

A favorite quote: My brethren, let me say, be like Christ at all times. Let us take care that we exhibit our Master, and not ourselves—so that we can say, “It is no longer I that live, but Christ that lives in me.”  (Charles Spurgeon)

Monday’s Musings #236 & September Daybook

September Daybook & Monday's Musings | What Joy Is Mine

Today is October 1st. It’s Saturday and I am finally having some time to write here.

The weather is a warm 72 degrees and slightly breezy. Fall is in the air as the leaves are gradually changing from the tops of the mountains and working down to us below.

I am thrilled for my sister as she is now married to the man she loves. Her wedding was yesterday and we have been in wedding mode all week prepping and preparing. Needless to say, its been a crazy week!

I am excited to edit another wedding I shot last weekend. They were such a fun and cute couple. Below is a sneak preview of the wedding I shot in August. I enjoyed being a part of their magical day, too.

Monday's Musings | What Joy Is Mine

This weekend I am going away with my love for our honeymoon. We never took one when we got married 25 years ago so decided to celebrate our 25th anniversary with a honeymoon. Not going anywhere spectacular but we are going somewhere beautiful and being together is really all we are wanting. And our anniversary isn’t officially until November but the season is pretty right now so why wait?

Last Sunday, we witnessed 9 baptisms in our church. What an awesome event to see more people join the family of God. Praise the Lord!

Our trip to Kansas and Missouri was so awesome and fun. Our son performed well but didn’t place. And he handled it with much grace. Visiting our friends in Missouri was the highlight of our trip. My husband and our kids even went up into the arch in St. Louis! Below are some photos capturing our fun.

A new experience for me was trying homemade pumpkin pasta. And let me say, yes! We will be eating that again. The flavor was so delightful and how perfect for autumn. Have you ever had pumpkin pasta?

Our daughter was blessed with a car as a gift! God is good. She has been saving her pennies to buy one and a family member gave her theirs and its a nice running vehicle. The only thing she has to fix is the air conditioner and she has the funds to do that since they gifted it to her. How awesome is that? However, I will miss our time in the car as I was the one who drove her where she needed to go. It’s bittersweet, you know?

This week is the beginning of the balloon fiesta. For the next ten days hot air balloons will grace our skies daily. It is a beautiful sight to behold.

I am grateful for God’s provision, my husband, photography, and morning devotionals.

Favorite quote:It is not left to our own option whether we shall praise God or not. Praise is God’s most righteous due, and every Christian, as the recipient of His grace, is bound to praise God from day to day.” ~Charles Spurgeon

Are you ready to share a favorite post? Are you ready to encourage another? Well, then let’s get to it. Thank you for stopping by today.

Monday’s Musings #227 & July Daybook Entry

Monday's Musings #227 & July Daybook | What Joy Is Mine

Today is July 31st.

I am feeling in awe that August is here! Summer is drawing to a close and my favorite times of the year are nearing.

The weather is still too hot for me. 96 degrees today and I desire to be indoors. However, we have been blessed with some rain and I am enjoying that.

My garden is beginning to produce veggies to eat. Zucchini and chilies have graced our table. And I am keeping an eye out for squash bugs which totally gross me out.

I am readingThe Sovereignty of God” by A.W. Pink. It is really good and easy to read. What are you reading?

Last weekend, we celebrated our youngest son’s 21st birthday. We had a few friends and family over for pizza and games. It was a wonderful time! And our son threw a birthday ringer in a game of horseshoes.

I am enjoying my new used car. We ended up with a newer Sonata and I love it. It’s a mid-size car and perfect for us. In September, it will take its first long distance trip as we make our way to Kansas.

I am watchingThe Sound of Music” with our kids. We love this movie and its perfect for a Sunday.

One project we tackled in July was our garage. My husband took a couple of days off to get it done and did an excellent job. We donated and dumped and cleaned. It looks so nice. And I am glad to have a place for pantry overflow when it happens.

Looking forward to our daughter’s theater show this weekend. She is excited about it since it is a combination of singing and skits. She has been working to get her costumes together and even made one of them herself. It will be fun.

One of my favorite things to do is bake up goodies for my family. Tonight I whipped up Banana Peanut Butter Muffins and they were so delish. Tomorrow I hope to bake cookies for our cookie jar.

I am finishing editing some photos of my cousin who is graduating this year. We did her senior photo shoot at a pretty local spot and I think they turned out beautiful.

I am thankful for thunderstorms and rain, for birthdays to celebrate, for church and for the faithfulness of our Father.

A favorite quote: ” Nothing is well done without prayer for the simple reason that it leaves God out of the account.” (E.M. Bounds)

I am so thankful for what you will share this week. So grateful to have you here friends.

Monday’s Musings #213 & April Daybook

AprilDaybook

Today is Saturday, April 23rd, 2016

The weather is windy with a hint of rain but nothing to brag about.

I enjoyed an afternoon tea with my sisters and a sweet friend. We attended a new local tea room to celebrate a birthday and had a wonderful time. I just love having tea with friends. In a couple of weeks, my daughter and I will be attending a special tea: a Star Wars tea. That’s right! A Star Wars tea. I’ll let you know how that goes.

I learned so much at a recent women’s conference our pastor nominated me to attend. The focus was to learn more about expository Bible study which is one of the best ways to study the Word. I am so thankful to have went.

Looking forward to Sunday. Not only to be in the Word and be with our new church family but also because it is Food Truck Sunday at our church. It’s such a cool thing our church does to promote fellowship in our church. Being we are so new and everyone is getting to know one another, Food Truck Sunday invites all to stay and chat it up. Love that!

Spiritually, I am reading through J.C. Ryle’s devotional book on the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. I get a main Bible reading then another suggested Bible reading to reiterate the teaching then his wisdom in a devotional. I read this devotional in the morning to get my day started. How do you begin the day in God’s Word? What are you reading?

I am watching the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy with my family tonight. It’s rare that we ever watch just one. We start them early and watch all three movies. It’s just how we do it. However, as much as I love the movies, the books are excellent reads.

This week I met with a sweet lady whose wedding I will be photographing at the end of summer. I now have two weddings to prepare for and I am so excited. Yes, it’s pressure-filled but its one of the most beautiful events to photograph. God is so good to make these two opportunities available.

My new favorite treat is this Cinnamon Walnut Muffin In A Mug. I shared it on WJIM’s Facebook page as soon as I tried it. And let me say…it’s delish with a small dollop of organic vanilla yogurt on top.  I did make some changes though. My substitution were: safflower oil for the coconut oil, organic vanilla yogurt for the 0% greek yogurt (only because its what I had on hand), and I used Truvia for my sweetener. I also love that you can bake it instead of using the microwave. Give it a try.

Spring cleaning, as I continue with it, has found me cleaning the grout in our bathroom this week. It’s a task to be done over a few days but so worth the time to do it. I also replaced all our chocolate brown towels with white ones. What a difference it made in brightening up the room. Are you tackling any spring cleaning in your home?

I am thankful for getting the silent reflux under control, for continued diligence in my exercise, for days filled with things to do, for moments of rest as the Lord designs it, and for this blog and all the friends who visit faithfully as well as new friends who stop by.

Favorite quote: “When we are called on to speak a word for Christ let us not be taken up with the adequacy of our eloquence and the power of our reason, but with the adequacy and power of Christ.” (J.C. Ryle)

Welcome back friends. Another week means another opportunity to share your encouragement with readers, one another and, of course, me! Well, get going!
